At the end of February, the new branch of Green Grown, the No. 1 Cannabis Store in Belgium, will open its doors in the heart of Bruges. More than 600 years after hemp was first traded in the medieval Hanseatic city.
At the world's first fair, named after Bruges' Van der Beurse family, merchandise was traded from all over the world. Beer and wax from Germany, fruit and oil from Spain, wool and tin from England, gold and spices from Venice, cloth, linen and carpets from Bruges itself... The best hemp (cannabis) came from Russia, and was usually called femeel, femelen or fumele . In other regions the word made kempopgang, but it was all about the same plant, one of humanity's oldest cultural crops.
Green Grown breathes new life into that old tradition, with new, quality (and perfectly legal) cannabis products. From flowers ("CBD cannabis") for smoking or vaping, to oils and balms, to bongs, dry-herb vapes and other utensils for consuming cannabis.
Green Grown is a concept store. For enthusiasts, there are books and magazines on cannabis and related topics.
After Leuven, Antwerp, Deurne and Mechelen, Bruges is now also getting a fully-fledged cannabis store. This is not only a homecoming for the plant, but also for Green Grown owner Joeri Perneel, born and raised in the West Flemish capital. Reason enough to make the new store a success story.
